The PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization) is an important part of many American schools in the United States and overseas. It is the primary volunteer group of parents that works with teachers and the school's administration to help provide the best learning and social environment possible for our children.
AOSR has carried on the tradition of having an active and vibrant PTO throughout its 65 year old history.
"Our main purpose is to provide an opportunity for parents to get involved in supporting school-wide events and activities. We work together, along with teachers and the school’s administration to provide support for student programs, social activities and fundraising events. The PTO designs its activities and events to enhance the educational experience of all our students. We invite you to join us as we work together to enrich the education of our students and strengthen the connection between school and home. We depend on you to volunteer and make these events a success."

The PTO Boutique is a donation and consignment based shop, where students, parents, and the entire community can contribute or purchase items. The PTO accepts gently used goods including, but not limited to:
- Children's clothing and shoes
- Teen clothing and shoes
- Men and women's clothing and shoes
- Children's games and toys
- Sportswear & sporting gear
- Household items
If you would like to consign items, you are welcome to download the consignment form to fill out before coming in.
The PTO Booster Bar is held on most Friday afternoons after school from 2:45-16:30 pm. The Booster Bar sells a variety of food, including hot dogs, hamburgers & veggie burgers, snacks, and drinks. The Booster Bar is held at the counter in front of the gym, and it's purpose is to raise money for school clubs, sports' teams, and other groups while bringing spirit and good food to campus. The Booster Bar is often run before sports events, and will be posted on the school calendar and PTO calendar.
Mayfair is an annual school wide spring celebration and fundraiser which is always the 2nd Saturday in May from 11:00 - 16:00. Much of the proceeds from the event go into the PTO Inspiration Fund (check out more details below!) and the rest go back into helping provide support to the various AOSR activities, events, and fundraising projects.
The Family Picnic, is an annual event where all AOSR families join together to celebrate the beginning of the school year in September. There is International food, musical entertainment, family fun, and games. The Family Picnic is a great opportunity for the whole school community to meet old friends or make new friends and spend some time in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
This handbook gives tips on AOSR campus life, including parking, after school activities, all school events, volunteer opportunities, our school bus system etc.
The handbook also covers purchasing a cell phone plan, getting internet, areas of Rome, shops & pharmacies, public transportation, driving in Rome, housing tips, eating out, finding an apartment, and other helpful resources.

Trunk or Treat is a special event for our community in October. AOSR families decorate their cars in float style- each trunk decorated and filled with a different spooky theme. There are games on the open quad area for kids to participate in, face painting, and so much more! Many student organizations such as the Go Green Club set up games and volunteered to make this event even more exciting for our youngest students.
The PTO hosts many seasonal snack and drink sales to benefit various clubs and organizations on campus. The sales benefit students who are fundraising for a project, a trip, or another specific event.
For example, this year the PTO held "Have a cup of cheer," where they sold various hot beverages during the chilly winter times. The funds went to various fundraising projects that were going on around campus such as the JNRC Holiday Gift Initiative, and GIN's Project Rome to support those in need.
The Inspiration Fund allows teachers to invest in specific projects they feel will have a lasting impact on their students and the AOSR community. In the past, funds have gone to new equipment for the playground, and this school year, proceeds from the Inspiration Fund went towards a Shakespeare workshop. The PTO is working on using some of those funds for a special author visit in the springtime (details to come soon!).
