Our main purpose is to provide an opportunity for parents to get involved in supporting school-wide events and activities. The PTO designs activities and events to enhance the educational experience of all students. Parents are encouraged to join the PTO to enrich the education of students and strengthen the connection between school and home.
About the PTO
The American Overseas School of Rome Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is a group of parents guardians, faculty and staff affiliated with AOSR. Everyone is a member, and there is no fee to join. AOSR has carried on the tradition of having an active and vibrant PTO throughout its over 75-year-old history.

Support students, families, faculty, and staff in an inclusive manner, by facilitating events and communication that aid in our mission of "Build Community. Bring Joy". We also assist in supporting the mission of AOSR, which is to inspire our diverse student body to courageously meet the demands of a changing world.
How it's done:
Planning and facilitating events that help to build our community. Providing support to existing and incoming families through information and resource sharing.
Supporting students, faculty, and staff through funding grants for projects that touch all members of the community. Providing and supporting student group fundraising for various clubs and student groups. Improving the overall ASOR experience through bringing joy to our students, faculty, staff, and families. Offering an on-campus volunteer experience that is unique within the international school community here in Rome.
- Popcorn Wednesday: A beloved fundraising tradition that allows students to purchase a bag of popcorn for a snack every Wednesday.
- Social Events: Parent coffees and luncheons to help connect our families. Off campus family events and meet-ups.
- Booster Bar: The most renowned tradition at ASOR, the Booster Bar is an American style BBQ held most Fridays after school, when Covid related protocols allow. Hamburgers, hot dogs, soda and chips are available for purchase, and parents/families are welcomed onto campus to share in the fun
- Support for the Arts: Assisted with the High School play, and assisted in student led fundraising for our choir and performing arts. In years past, held a virtual art auction, with proceeds supporting Fine Arts at AOSR.
- Staff Appreciation: Recognizing the hard work of staff through the year through mini events, to include recognition at the Holidays, and culminating in a larger Spring "Thank You" event. This event was a week-long celebration of our teacher and staff with themed days, thank you notes, and several delicious treats.
- School and Student Group Grants: Each school (ES, MS, and HS), teacher, and student group are eligible to submit grant requests that support learning or improve the overall experience of our students. Examples include showcases for art, filtered water stations, support for drama, vocal music, and band productions, assistance with club trips and transit, and ES/SS specific school wide events.
- Large Scale Community Events: These have included Oktoberfest, Winterfest, and Mayfair. Such events celebrate our community, and allow us all to gather for fellowship and socializing outside of the school day.
- Falcon Wear: The PTO offers a wide range of eco-friendly athletic and spiritwear. These items can be purchased on occasional on campus sales. Students can be spotted in logowear at athletics events, during Spirit Week, or on Falcon Fridays. Go Falcons!
- Seasonal Celebrations: The PTO has subsidized and held in-school student events celebrating Halloween, Christmas/Winter Holidays, Spring, and the end of the school vear.
These events are truly the backbone of the "Build Community" part of our mission, while also bringing joy to parents, students, and staff alike.
MayFair is an annual school wide spring celebration and fundraiser held on a Saturday in May. Much of the proceeds from the event go into the PTO Inspiration Fund and the rest go back into helping provide support to various AOSR activities, events, and fundraising projects. There is live music, a variety of international food, entertainment and games, a live auction, and a raffle.
